Invasive non-native species (plants and animals) threaten the survival of native wildlife and our natural ecosystems, cost the economy nearly £2 billion a year, and can even harm our health and interfere with activities we enjoy.

A wide range of organisations and individuals across Great Britain (GB) are helping to reduce the impacts of invasive non-native species. Invasive Species Week is a chance to celebrate this work and encourage others to get involved.

Online Speaker Programme

This event will be hosted by Dr Sarah Whild (National Forum for Biological Recording) and feature four presentations, each focusing on the relevance of biological recording at a different geographic scale, in addition to Q&A sessions with each speaker:

Join LERC Wales for a field trip to Cors Fochno (Borth Bog) to look for rare Sphagnums, jumping spiders and other bog specialists.

Site warden Justin Lyons will give us a tour of the site at the start and direct us to where we can safely explore.

Meet at the Ynyslas Car Park (currently £4 for the day) at 10 am and we will car share to the site which has limited parking.

Bring refreshments and a packed lunch as there will be no on site food facilities. The Ynyslas toilets should be open.

Cynnal Cymru – Sustain Wales are delighted to be offering free places on their Nature Wise Eco-literacy course to anyone who works or volunteers with a community group or third sector organisation. Town and community councillors in these areas are also eligible.

Nabod Natur - Nature Wise is an online learning programme which teaches how the natural environment works, the threats it faces, and how we can all help nature thrive.

Courses now available through the medium of Welsh.

Participants will learn how nature works and about the threats it faces. They will also develop action plans for themselves or their groups, using their knowledge for the benefit of wildlife and habitats.

Courses will run from April 2023 to August 2023, with participants joining two online sessions with a total time commitment of 5 hours. Those successfully completing the course will be awarded a certificate. Free places are available thanks to funding from Moondance Foundation.
