Bwletin misol Llen Natur #102
August, holidays, and a chance to broaden our horizons. There is the odd holiday pic in this issue, just to remind you that Llên Natur has an international dimension and that leisure time is "time to stand and stare".
The fungus gathering season is almost upon us - already upon us some would say - and it is also timely to draw your attention to the newly published fourth volume in the series of Welsh plant and animal names. Request your copy through our email address. Interest in this group is increasing, together with requests to identify photographed specimens. But our experts also have a request - please take a second photo, after your first possibly more artistic attempt, showing the stipe and the underside of the fungus. This gives a better chance at identification. It is also a good idea if you have a go at an identification yourself first.
PS1 The Llên Natur project is honoured to have been entrusted with the legacy of a large slide collection of plant photos by the late Professor Thomas Ceiri Griffiths (1925-2016, originally from Cwmystradllyn) who died in March of this year. We should like to thank the family for their trust in the project to ensure that the slides (every one annotated with date and place of course) are suitable digitised, to be put to good further use in the Project. It is our duty therefore to ask that any photographically inclined naturalists offer their help with this in Professor Griffiths' memory.
PS2 One of the creatures on the Llygad y Dydd page has been misnamed. Let us know which one and what it should be and you may get a mention in the next Bwletin!
