Species Focus - Oedemera femoralis

01 November 2024

Written by: Cofnod

Autumn is a good time to keep an eye out for one of our more distinctive beetle species. Oedemera femoralis is one of the Thick-thighed Beetles and at about 2 cm long, quite distinctive. They are nocturnal and can be found sitting on walls or behind bark during the day. Wales appears to be a hotspot for this Nationally Scarce species, although we only have 59 records of this species on the Cofnod database.

It's not one of those species you can actively go out looking for, as it turns up so infrequently. However, if you do come across one, please submit your record, ideally with photos, to the Cofnod ORS or the LERC Wales App.
