Species Focus - Wren (Troglodytes troglodytes)

So, we’ve missed out on participating in “Hunt the Wren Day” on the 26th December where, in the past, an unfortunate wren (dead or alive) would be captured and paraded around the town. Presumably modern folk no longer have the time to secure a wren whilst navigating the Boxing Day sales!

However, our Wren is still a familiar and common garden bird, so there’s no excuse not to make today “Record a Wren Day”. Most shrubby gardens will have Wrens and it’s often their loud, machinegun-like calls that give their presence away. They generally flit about low to the ground, hunting invertebrates in bushes, vegetation and amongst rocks.

Although widespread, there are still areas of North Wales without records of Wrens

Please submit your records to the Cofnod ORS or the LERC Wales App.
